When I was in college and graduate school, I could not study without my Post-it Flags. These are clear adhesive strips with colored tips that you stick onto your notebook or textbook as a placeholder or to highlight an important paragraph without damaging the book. I accidentally discovered them in National Bookstore, when I bought them because of their pretty colors. Once I discovered what they could do, they quickly became an indispensable tool, especially when consulting several thick books for writing papers. These flags helped me locate important passages in mere seconds, saving me time spent flipping through the pages, trying to find my way back.

This school year, Post-It provides a few tips on helping you get to the top of your class. The key is really just being able to organize your schedule and your notes effectively. Once you’ve got this down, studying and getting your projects done will be a breeze.

Calendar your Classes. The moment you get your schedule, map it out on a calendar to serve as your guide. Not only will this keep you organized, it also eliminates embarrassing moments like being late for class or even forgetting you had one! A calendar will be helpful as you memorize new class and org meeting schedules as well as extra-curricular activities. You can even make your own personalized calendar and express yourself as a daily reminder to be creative and fun despite the pressures of school.

Color Code Your Notes. Wrap different notebooks in different, eye-catching colors so you can find and reach for the right notebook during the right class. If you’re using a binder, make color-coded tabs for each subject and flip through each section easily. Use Post-it® Flags which come in different colors and are great for color-coding documents.

Keep an Organizer or Planner. A busy bee that you are you can’t be expected to keep track of all your deadlines mentally and you can’t always take your big calendar with you. Keep an organizer or planner on hand to jot down your meetings and assignments. You can buy one readymade or express yourself and make one of your own. Using Post-it® Arrow Flags can also help pinpoint important schedules and gives you extra space to write down changes in location or time.

Study in a Nook of Your Own. A classroom has so many distractions but if you have a study nook in your home or dorm, you can concentrate on reading the lessons for the next day and on completing your homework. Keep it colorful and fun by expressing yourself and decorating your study space. Whether you remember things better through words or through doodles, Post-it® Notes Original Cubes and Original Notes can help information stick to your mind.

Post-It products can be found at any bookstore or office supply store near you.————

Guess who loves to shop at Divisoria ?

Me, of course and who else?

The former first lady, Imelda Marcos.

I took this photo sometime 2005 when I spotted her at 168 Mall

And perhaps you!

Well…if you want to shop in Divisoria for your Christmas shopping needs, now is the time before the streets get too crowded with Christmas shoppers. This is Juan Luna St. where I always pass on my way to my favorite shopping place, the 168 Mall. My husband normally just drops me by the Binondo side of Juan Luna and I just walk till I reach Sta. Elena st. Parking can be quite difficult if one is not early enough.

Tabora or Ilaya streets are my other stops if I want to buy ribbons, Christmas wrappers or materials for Christmas decorations. This is always my first stop before proceeding to 168 Mall. For food or baking ingredients, the New Divisoria Mall and Sto. Cristo streets is another stop-over. See I just shop every two years for some supplies so I just replenish them when I am out of stock.

When all the kitchen and craft needs are bought, I can now concentrate on 168 mall. I notice there is a multi-level parking beside 168 mall now. The mall has expanded more than twice it used to be when I first shopped there in 2005-2006 (I can’t remember now). This is where I buy some of my Christmas shopping gifts and wholesale clothes.

Not all of you are familiar with Divisoria so I took the liberty of placing a map here as a guide to your shopping needs.

Source of map: Taralets.com

In the span of just a day, Typhoon Ondoy displaced 300,000 families all over Metro Manila and killed around 90 people. The storm may have passed, but the worst is not yet over for those who managed to survive. The displaced families desperately need food, clothes, medicine, and blankets until they can reclaim their homes – and our government is doing nothing about it.

We don’t have to rely on our useless government to get things done. You too can help the victims of Typhoon Ondoy by donating the said items to a drop-off point near you. For those who are abroad and willing to help, you can make online donations through the following accounts. Together, we can help our fellow Filipinos overcome the tragedy and destruction caused by this devastating typhoon.

For more information on Typhoon Ondoy and how you can help, visit OndoyManila.

The 14th French Film Festival in Manila opens at the Shangri-La Cineplex tonight, June 5, and will run until June 14. This year’s lineup is a conservative mix of 14 artistic films that were shown at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as local films like Raya Martin’s La Independencia, Janice Perez’s Sabongero, and Brillante Mendoza’s Serbis. Tout de Suite, which was part of the original screening list, was rated X by the country’s moral compass MTRCB (Movie and Television Review and Classification Board) and removed from the film festival. The Pianiste, which originally had two screenings, also got an X rating, but it received a special permit for only one screening. With an institution like the MTRCB around, should I really be surprised that there aren’t any French horror films in this year’s lineup?

Admission to all movies is free on a first-come first-serve basis. Look under the cut for the schedule of the 14th French Film Festival in Manila.

It’s the time of year when people flock to the nearest Starbucks to spend hundreds, maybe thousands of pesos on cups and cups coffee. All because they want to accumulate stickers for yet another Starbucks planner. The planner promo is a clever marketing strategy that boosts the coffee giants’ sales, but all it really does is encourage people to spend mindlessly on beverages and objects they don’t need.

Instead of wasting your money on expensive, designer coffee, why not get yourself a Journal that will Actually Change Your Life?

“This Journal will Actually Change your Life” is a 2009 Planner from Free Speech Publications, a new local publishing house that “aims to write & publish books that are visionary & life changing” and “to distribute books that provide fresh answers to the situations in contemporary society”. The 2009 Planner is hardbound in black with colored pages. And instead of subtle advertisements to make you buy more coffee, the pages contain interesting trivia, quotations, and other kinds of “useless” information.

Besides the usual monthly and weekly calendars, the Free Speech Publications 2009 journal also has lots of other useful features such as quarterly health check-ups and soul inventory, a weekly mood chart, a monthly expenses tracker, note pages, measurement conversion tables, an address book, even a little section on flags! Not to mention there’s also lots and lots of space for doodling and making other notes.

The Journal That Will Change Your Life is not only a useful planner to have around – buying one will actually help make a difference. All proceeds will go to the Lifeline Foundation Support Team, a non-profit, non-government organization dedicated to educating the poor and giving relief to the oppressed.

Grab a Journal That Will Change Your Life and make a difference for only Php 850 (less than what you would spend for a Starbucks planner!). Available at Fully Booked and Power Books.
————

Ayala malls are usually concentrated in the Makati and Alabang area but today, shoppers and leisure-seekers in northern Metro Manila can enjoy the Ayala mall experience. TriNoma is the newest and most exciting Ayala mall in Quezon City. It contains over 300 stores and is subdivided into several zones for your convenience – the Teen and Sports Zone, the IT Zone, the Home Zone, Wellness Zone, and Children’s Zone. For added variety, the mall is flanked by Landmark Department store and Crossings for your groceries and everyday essentials. Restaurants and coffee shops are placed at strategic locations, and the Trinoma park at the fifth floor of the building is an ideal place to kick back and relax after a long day of shopping.

There are pocket gardens on the fifth level and places where you can just relax. It’s quite a relaxing atmosphere for families when they are tired from shopping

Admittedly it’s a little difficult to find your way around Trinoma, especially if it’s your first time there. Its trademark Ayala mall design makes it easy for you to get lost in the veins of its twisting corridors. Fortunately there are maps to guide you and if all else fails, you can always ask a security guard to help you find the store or restaurant you’re looking for.

You can reach Trinoma by hopping on buses or jeepneys that go along Mindanao Avenue or North Avenue. Those from the south can get to Trinoma through the North Avenue MRT station, which is connected to the mall itself.

Anyway here are some of the 500 plus stores in TriNoma Mall
