Online Sample Sale at BadJoan.Com

A sample sale is when designers get rid of excess stock by selling off the clothing samples they used in fashion shows, fashion magazine editorial spreads, or mannequin displays. They’re a great way for the average Joe – or Joan – to snag designer pieces without having to lose an arm, leg, and a pound of flesh just paying for it. I don’t know if we have sample sales in the Philippines but you know the laws of the Internet – whatever we can’t get here, we can definitely get online!

According to Real Simple magazine, California-based online sample sale website BadJoan.Com is one of the best places to grab pieces from up-and-coming indie designers. They sell women’s clothing, bags, shoes, jewelry up to 80% off their retail price, and they work directly with the designers to make sure each item is 100% authentic and in great condition. And yes, they ship internationally!

My favorites: the Liberty Dress in Floral Dot by Vanitas and the harem pants by Desanka in light gray. I would also wear the gold and turquoise layered necklace by Lisa K (pictured above). Most of the items offered at Bad Joan are in conservative colors and classic cuts, which probably appeals to most women. In the future, however, I’d like to see Bad Joan carry edgier, less conservative, high-fashion styles.
